Zhuchka was born to a family of fishermen on the shores of the White Sea. Her life since puppyhood was a mix of carefree memories and lonesome times. Though her family loved her, she was often left to her own devices, having to learn how to gather resources for herself at an early age. This was incredibly difficult, because the climate of her home was unkind. Winters were cold, and summers had a poor harvest, but Zhuchka always strived to do her best in spite of these conditions. Her family became too busy to care for her, often leaving her fur disheveled. Zhuchka, feeling unwanted, decided to find something that she was good at in order to feel useful to somebody again.
She wandered east in search of a new home and passion, ending up in equally harsh lands. For years, she lived in Siberia, far from her native land, wandering from one part-time job to another. Although she had the skills needed to get by in these conditions, it was difficult to find a home she could belong to, and she was unable to build strong relationships with anyone she met.
One day, she spotted an ad: “We are looking for a full-time employee: an assistant for a seasonal scientific expedition by the waters of the Bering Strait. Employment - at least 3 months of outings.”
Zhuchka saw this, and decided to give it a go—after all, she had nothing to lose. She spent the next few years hopping between land and water, doing many of the same things she had been doing previously, but much more complex and demanding. She participated in the transportation of valuables found in local waters, learned first aid, and went for long periods out on the Chukchi and Bering seas.
During one of the expeditions, she landed on the shore of a land completely new to her; Alaska. During a break, she happened to receive a signal on the radio broadcasting live from this new land; a race participated by a sled dog team known as Ilion. She became interested in the team, the Sanctuary, and the sport itself. Possessing strong muscles, and accustomed to difficult conditions, she decided she wanted to give sled dog racing a try, and so she set out to find the sanctuary she would soon call her home!
